understanding voice dialoguing through the healthy adult self

"A really useful and informative theoretic approach."

-Clare - psychotherapist

course description

Talking to the voices is a technique that can be used to engage a client's voices in a therapeutic conversation. Within the structural model of dissociation, voices are not signs and symptoms of mental illness or pathology. They are manifestations of dissociated parts of the self that need to be re-integrated into the adult identity. They should not be ignored, dismissed, or made to shut up; they should be accepted, welcomed, and blended into the psyche. Through presentation and discussion, participants consider the rationale for voice dialoguing in the structural model of dissociation, consider the principles of voice dialoguing, and explore the elements of the healthy adult self through which re-integration of the voices occurs.
